She Drives by moonlight

She drives by moonlight,
away from her lover’s arms
into the cool of the night.
She leaves the warmth of his smile,
the radiance of his glare,
Their hands dancing to the secret rhythms of their hearts.
She escapes into the dark,
where the only heat is from bright white street lights
But she is still there,
looking in the glow of a love that is like no other.
One that eats away at her sleep with a fire
Devouring the night,
Taking the moon and stars to fuel it
And she drives by moonlight
to return to her lover’s arm
to keep her soul warm.
